AR Power complete solar installation at the Hedley Hub, part of the Percy Hedley Foundation in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Overview
Based in the North East of England, the Percy Hedley Foundation is a leading disability charity supporting people with complex learning difficulties, disabilities and additional communication needs. The Foundation provides specialist education, care, support, accommodation and learning opportunities across the region.
Project Overview
As part of Percy Hedley’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) objectives, the organisation is committed to improving sustainability across its operations.
Alongside the introduction of electric vehicles, charging infrastructure and LED lighting, a solar energy installation formed a key element of its wider Carbon Reduction Programme.
Following an initial meeting and subsequent site visits with AR Power’s Managing Director, Mark Dunville, and Head of Commercial, Stephen Armstrong, the credibility, expertise and experience of AR Power’s award-winning team led to the project being approved.
Speaking about the decision, Percy Hedley’s Procurement Manager, Simon Pearson, commented:
“Having researched the solar industry and carried out extensive due diligence with a number of suppliers, AR Power’s nationally recognised service, strong track record and excellent commercial knowledge made them the perfect choice for the project.
Our meetings with Mark and Stephen were highly professional and their insightful, technical proposals and presentations gave us the confidence and information required to move forward.”
Project Specifications
AR Power’s in-house team designed and installed a 26kWp solar PV system, comprising 59 panels. The system is expected to generate 22,042 kWh of renewable energy annually.
This installation will reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 4,955 kg per year, delivering an estimated £4,400 cost saving in year one.
Outcome
Commenting on the completion of the project, Procurement Manager, Simon added:
“The real value throughout the project came from our interaction with the AR Power team. From the initial consultations with the Commercial and Technical departments through to engagement with the Operations team, everyone demonstrated exceptional professionalism, responsiveness and customer service.
These qualities form the foundation of a strong and progressive business partnership and we are already looking forward to working with AR Power on future projects.”
Stephen Armstrong, AR Power’s Head of Commercial, was delighted with the outcome of the project, commenting, ‘This project was a fantastic opportunity to work with a well-known North East charity delivering essential services to people with learning difficulties and disabilities.
Our team ensured minimal disruption to day-to-day operations while delivering a solution that supports Percy Hedley’s ESG objectives. This installation once again demonstrates our experience, credibility and attention to detail across all our projects.”
