As part of their port policy, adding solar to the new shed was a planning requirement.
This shed is occupied by Oil Spill Response Limited who are the largest international industry-funded cooperative which exists to respond to oil spills wherever in the world they may occur, by providing preparedness, response and intervention services.
Port of Blyth asked AR Power to provide a proposal to install commercial solar panels based on successful earlier installations won competitively. The proposal we provided was reviewed against previous solar installation carried out at the port.
Our in-house team designed and installed a 52.2.kWp system made up of 120 solar panels which stands to generate 53,114 kWh of electricity for the tenants per year. It will also help the company save 11,955 kg of Co2e per year.
The state-of-the-art SolarEdge system we installed meets all RC62 fire safety requirements. Our team also installed bird guards to prevent birds nesting under the panels, permanent roof light protection, and a Mansafe system to ensure safe access for future solar maintenance.
As always, we aim to keep disruption to site operations to a minimum and to help ensure this, certain project requirements such as putting scaffolding in place were completed at the weekend.
Graham Bell, Project Engineer at Port of Blyth said “The installation process was excellent with AR Power remaining flexible in their approach and working around our tenants’ requirements and port operations. We would recommend AR Power to any port looking to add solar to their buildings, they provided an excellent service.”
Chris Balmer, Operations Director at AR Power said “This is the third solar PV installation we have completed for Port of Blyth. Again it is a great example of our expertise as a company and the high quality work our team delivers. Winning business based on the quality of past works is a testament to our company ethos and values.”
