Ellis Signs wanted to reduce their long-term energy costs and environmental impact. They were looking for a sustainable, cost-effective way to power their operations and lower their carbon footprint. Installing solar was an ideal solution that aligned with both their business goals and environmental values.

Their decision-making process was thorough. They researched the benefits of solar energy and received multiple quotes to ensure they were getting the best value for the installation and ongoing maintenance. Several aspects were taken into consideration including cost, efficiency, customer service, and the reputation of the solar installation companies.

Having already heard of the benefits of using asset finance to pay for solar PV installations through another North East business, Ellis Signs approached AR Power to provide a proposal to see if an asset finance payment model would work for them.

They provided their half-hourly consumption data for the past 12 months and our in-house design team started to create their proposal which would outline system size, cost, energy savings, payback period, carbon savings, and funding options, including asset finance.

Craig Robinson, Director at Ellis Signs said “Asset finance made sense for us as it allowed us to install the solar system without needing to use large upfront capital. It helped spread the cost over time and maintain cash flow for the business, while benefiting from immediate energy savings. The flexibility in repayment options was also a key factor in choosing this method of financing.

“We chose AR Power because of their expertise, reputation, and the comprehensive nature of their service offering. Their team provided us with a clear, tailored solution that met our needs, and their transparent pricing structure made it easy to understand the investment and expected returns. Their customer service and responsiveness were also standout factors.”

Solar PV inverters at Ellis SignsOnce we were appointed as the chosen commercial solar installation company, our in-house team began to process all relevant paperwork and put in place a plan for the installation, ordering the equipment and putting in place all safety requirements for the teams and personnel while the installation took place. Because this system was under 50 kWp we were able to fast track the DNO application and get approval from the grid within 2 weeks. If the system was over 50 kWp the application process can take up to 13 weeks to be approved.

Our team designed and installed a 39.84kWp Solar Edge solar PV system consisting of 96 panels, compliant to all RC62 recommendations. The system will generate 35,988 kWh of electricity and save the company 8,097 kg of CO2 each year.

Craig added “The process with AR Power was smooth and professional. Their team worked efficiently, and the installation was planned in such a way that there was no disruption to our day-to-day operations. The team was proactive in communicating timelines, and we didn’t experience any significant downtime or interruptions.

“We would recommend AR Power! They made the process easy, with minimal disruption, and provided excellent service throughout. Their commitment to sustainability, coupled with their expertise, gives us confidence in their solutions. We’ve already seen positive results in terms of both energy savings and environmental impact.”

Stephen Armstrong, Head of Commercial at AR Power said “Its great to see another North East based company installing solar to reduce operational costs and become more sustainable as a business. Ellis Signs are a great and forward-thinking team, being able to say their products have been made using renewable energy will no doubt go a long way for them and winning more tenders and business”.
